American Institute of Physics (AIP) 1975+ (Web). A searchable database that offers indexing and abstracting of over 80 major international physics journals. Online full-text is available for those titles the Library subscribes to. Includes book reviews.
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Digital Library (Web). Citations and full-text of ACM articles from journals, magazines, and conference proceedings relating to the computing industry. Full-text retrieval requires Adobe Acrobat.
Books In Print (Web). Requires Netscape 4.0/IE4.0. Lists in-print, out-of print, and forthcoming books from North American publishers. New: Now includes full-text book reviews!
Computer Database ASAP (Web). Requires Netscape 4.0/IE4.0. Articles about computer-related product introductions, news, and reviews about hardware, software, electronics, engineering, communications and the application of technology from 1994. Some full-text articles. Includes book reviews.
Core Biomedical Full-Text Collection (OVID) 1993+. Includes the full-text of 15 prominent medical journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine and Science. This is a WWW resource and you are leaving VIRGO.
Digital National Security Archive (Web). Contains over 35,000 declassified documents used in foreign policy decision-making by the U.S. government. Includes some photographs. These documents have been gathered since 1985 through the use of the Freedom of Information Act by the National Security Archive, located in Washington, D.C. at George Washington University.
Dow Jones Interactive (Web) Through its Publications Library, search and print the full text from hundreds of newspapers, periodicals (including a wide range of scholarly journals), and trade magazines. Find detailed financial and general information on U.S. companies and industries. Constantly updated.
ECONbase (Web). Access to 38 full-text economics and finance journals published by Elsevier/North Holland. Includes 13,000 refereed journal articles. Updated monthly.
Editons de Physique (Web). Full-text of physics journals published by Editions de Physique, including titles of interest to optics and materials science. Dates of coverage vary, but emphasis is 1990+.
Ethnic NewsWatch 1985+ (Web). Full-text of newspaper, magazine, and journal articles from 200 ethnic, minority, and native publications in the U.S. Available in English and Spanish. Updated monthly.
Expanded Academic Index ASAP (Web). Requires Netscape 4.0/IE4.0. Articles covering History, Psychology, Humanities, Current Events, Sociology, Communications, Astronomy, Religion, Law, and the General Sciences from 1980. Some full-text articles. Includes book reviews.
General BusinessFile ASAP (Web). Requires Netscape 4.0/IE4.0. Articles on Finance, Acquisitions & Mergers, International Trade, Money Management, New Technologies & Products, Local & Regional Business Trends, Investments and Banking from 1982. Includes book reviews. Some full-text articles.
Granger's World of Poetry (Web) Important instructions for new users. Contains full-text of more than 8500 classic poems, with quotations from 1500 more recent entries and anthology citations for 90,000 others. Other full-text resources include American Poetry Database and English Poetry Database (AD 600-1900), both from Chadwyck-Healey. More poetry databases are available on the Electronic Text Center page of English online resources.
Health Reference Center (Web). Requires Netscape 4.0/IE4.0. General database covering core medical journals as well as consumer-oriented health journals. Some full-text articles. Includes book reviews.
IDEAL Journals (Web). Contains journals published by Academic Press relating to sciences, mathematics, social sciences, business, law, and economics. Some full-text requires Adobe Acrobat. Connect directly to Browse Archive or Search Archive. Also connect via the UK server if there are connection problems with any of the above links.
InfoTrac Web (Web). Requires Netscape 4.0/IE4.0. The five InfoTrac Web databases (Expanded Academic ASAP, Books in Print, General BusinessFile ASAP, Computer Database, Health Reference Center) provide indexing with abstracts for over 2700 journals and full text of articles for 1200 of those journals (see Help Doc). Includes book reviews.
Institute of Physics (IOP) (Web). Access to 33 journals published by the Institute of Physics. Full-text access for titles U.Va. subscribes to and table of contents access for those not subscribed to.
JSTOR Journal Storage Project (Web). Full-text backfiles of many important scholarly journals in the areas of anthropology, asian studies, ecology, economics, education, finance, history, literature, mathematics, philosophy, political science, population studies, sociology, statistics. Please set up a proxy server account for off-grounds access to this database.
LEXIS/NEXIS Academic Universe (Web). Up-to-the-minute news from sources around the world; information on companies, industries, markets, government and politics; legal news, country profiles; book reviews, biographical, and other reference sources; U.S. Code, constitution, and court cases. Most entries are full-text, some updated daily. View Alphabetical Contents List and Help Sheets.
LINK Springer (Web). Access to searchable full-text of journals published by Springer Verlag in biology, chemistry, the geosciences, computer science, mathematics, medicine, physics, engineering, ecology, and economics. Full-text of some articles available only as .pdf files (requiring Adobe Acrobat). Includes book reviews.
Project MUSE (Web). One of the first ventures of its kind, Project Muse provides worldwide, networked, subscription access to the full text of the Johns Hopkins University Press's 40+ scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics.
Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) (Web). Journals pertaining to applied mathematics, mathematics, systems, and control. Electronic editions are published well ahead of the print versions. Full text of articles dated January 1997 forward can be searched and printed in .pdf format (requiring Adobe Acrobat). Includes book reviews.
World News Connection (Web). Offers time sensitive information gathered from thousands of foreign media sources, including political speeches, television programs and radio broadcasts, and articles from newspapers, periodicals, and books. Extensive and in-depth collection of unclassified military, political, environmental, sociological, scientific and technical data and reports from around the world (excluding U.S.). All material translated into English.
