VIVA Listservs

VIVA maintains four listservs for communicating with member libraries:

VAVIRTUA-L (General VIVA Information)
VIVAILL-L (Interlibrary Loan)
VIVASC-L (VIVA Special Collections and Archives)
TIC-L (Technical Information)

VIVA Policy on Listservs
(Approved by the VIVA Steering Committee on March 4, 2010)

PURPOSE

The VIVA listservs are VIVA's primary means of communicating with VIVA member librarians throughout the Commonwealth. Messages generally involve VIVA committee announcements and VIVA requests for comments from the Virginia higher education library community. Archives are available beginning in October 1997.

POLICY

While primarily intended for members of the Virginia academic library community, VAVIRTUA-L and VIVAILL-L are open to all, while VIVASC-L and TIC-L are accessible only by approval. VIVA’s vendors are encouraged to join these the open listservs, but are expected to strictly adhere to the general guidelines below. All listservs are unmoderated, but only members of the listserv may post. In order to maintain the free flow of communication on the listservs, VIVA listserv administrators ask that list participants adhere strictly to the general guidelines below. Repeated violations of the guidelines will result in removal from the listserv.

General guidelines

Appropriate messages on both listservs include VIVA communications to its members, announcements related to VIVA committee activities, information about ILL activities within VIVA, and discussion related to the collections, operations and mission of VIVA, the Virtual Library of Virginia.
Inappropriate messages on the listservs include vendor promotions, external event notices, job postings and other announcements not directly related to VIVA’s mission and operations.
All messages must include an identifiable author and corresponding, working email address.
Messages must not contain file attachments.
Only messages that are respectful, professional and courteous are permitted.

VAVIRTUA-L	Purpose	The primary means of communicating with VIVA participants throughout the Commonwealth. In addition to posting all VIVA committee meeting announcements and minutes, other important announcements are made on this list and committees often request comments from the VIVA community via this listserv. Archives are available beginning in October 1997. We encourage all members of the Virginia academic library community to subscribe.

VIVAILL-L	Purpose	Facilitates discussions among VIVA interlibrary loan librarians. The official means of communication to the VIVA interlibrary loan community from the VIVA Resource Sharing Committee.

VIVASC-L	Purpose	The VIVASC-L listserv is for VIVA Special Collections and Archives librarians and for those participating in the Virginia Heritage Project Task.

TIC-L	Purpose	The TIC-L listserv is for discussion of technical issues faced by VIVA members. Subscribers may wish to pose a question (on TIC-lish issues) to that list once in a while to see if other schools are experiencing a problem or to see how others are dealing with issues. This listserv is not very active, but it comes in handy from time to time. TIC-L is a closed listserv, restricted to VIVA participants only.
	Subscribe	To subscribe to TIC-L, please send a request to be added to the list to the VIVA Office.
	Unsubscribe	To unsubscribe, please send a request to be removed from the list to the VIVA Office.
