The VIVA Stats Workship will be held on Tuesday, February 2, in the auditorium of the Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. Registration will begin at 9:30; the workshop will run from 10 am – 3 pm.
The workship will be divided into two sessions. In the morning, Jim Self, Director of Management Information Services at the UVA Library, will present an overview of statistical concepts, terminology, and applications. He will discuss the collection, analysis, and presentation of library data, while sharing a few practical and colorful examples. In the afternoon, Tansy Matthews, VIVA Associate Director, will lead a hands-on BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) session examining methods of preparing use data for long-term storage to allow for the reporting of usage over extended periods of time. We will look at ways to "batch process" COUNTER compliant use data using Excel and will discuss how non-COUNTER formats can be included in the compiled data.
A box lunch, as well as coffee, tea and bottled water, muffins and pastries will be provided to attendees. VIVA will reimburse travelers from public member institutions. Information about travel reimbursement is available here: http://www.vivalib.org/travel/index.html.
