1. Announcements

None

2. Changes to agenda

status of the agreement to preserve specific titles within nursing. Ruth
Staunton will check on this. Kathy will send the VIVA list a note and call for
comments.

3. Approval of Minutes of , 2000 meeting

No changes --Minutes of October 11, 2002 approved by consensus.

4. Budget -- K. Perry

Copies of the current updated budget were distributed. The uncommitted nominal
balance is nominally $21,071, but more like $150,000 after correcting some
errors noted after the document was prepared.

5. Gale - J. Rettig

J. Rettig reviewed various K-12 databases Gale has offered us gratis. While we
have generally avoided free resources, we voted to recommend acceptance of the
Professional Collection, which may be useful to people in Education. Kathy Perry
noted that SIRS, a related resource, is also available free.

6. Renewals

While some renewal decisions were not made until the discussion on retention
priorities was complete, the final recommendations were as follows:

Recommended renewal of:

Cambridge university Press journals Gale Group ABC-CLIO CSA Lexis-Nexis
Statistical Stats-USA Recommend against renewal of: Periodicals Contents Index
(set to lapse in March 2003). Use has been light, and we believe that the funds
spent can be better used either for new resources or, in the event of cuts, to
protect other resources. 7. BIP

Bowker will not license Books In Print to other vendors such as Gale in the
future. We will have a trial of BIP using the Bowker platform. Pat Hausman
will handle the vendor negotiations.

8. Discussion on priorities for retention

Some adjustments were made among high, medium, and low priority assignments for
current resources. Periodicals Contents Index was removed from the list per the
earlier recommendation against renewal.

9. List of desired purchases

Wilson Education Full Text, Web of Knowledge, and IEEE's "All Society"
package were added to the existing list. In the likely event that there is not
sufficient new funding, or sufficient funds freed by cancellations, to procure
our most-wanted new resources, the group resolved to pursue them on our own.
There was particular interest in the IEEE offer, which would require
coordination between VIVA and the existing doctoral-level subscribers to IEEE's
Electronic Library.
