VIVA ad hoc Technical Issues Committee on Content Linking and Management for Electronic Serials and other Digital Materials
Minutes for March 26, 2003
Lynchburg, VA

Present: Elaine Day (Averett, Chair), Linda Carder (Lynchburg), Mary Ann Chappell (JMU), Deanna Chavez (RMU), Liz Kent (Sweet Briar), Leslie O'Brien (VT), Jamie Redwine (Hollins), Gary Stottlemyer (UVa)

1. The committee reviewed the draft of the report. Some suggestions for revisions and additions were made, as well as minor editorial changes. It will be released as a preliminary report, together with the workshop announcement. Our final report is due June 5, in time for review by the Steering Committee on June 6.

2. Workshop--some specifics were discussed:

· Budget is $4,000
· Limit of 85 people, an average of 2 per institution
· Committee members need to submit their registrations

There was general discussion about the topics, ideas, and allocation of time for sessions and breaks. What is the correct balance between demonstration of content linking applications, instruction on related technologies, and discussion of VIVA specific issues? Session leaders will outline the sessions and get together at the April meeting to firm up plans. Should we send the attendees a list of issues beforehand so they will be prepared to take an active part in discussions?

Action items:

Liz will incorporate changes to the report.
Elaine will send out the workshop agenda and a link to the preliminary report.
Session leaders will outline session content.

Next Meeting - April 30, 2003, 10 A.M., at Sweet Briar College
