- A data processing error occurred that affected 19 days worth of Nature usage data from January 12th through 31st. This resulted in the usage data figures for the month of January being higher than they should have been. The stats are being reprocessed and should be completed towards the end of April. In the meantime, VIVA has posted the numbers we have already collected, and will review the data at the end of April.

- GaleNet stats by institution have been added for November and December2000. Stats include use of ALL accesses to all GaleNet databases subscribed to by each institution, so the numbersare not comparable across institutions. Nevertheless, it is very interesting to see that use of Gale Net Databasesduring the July - December periods more than doubled -- increasing from 38,784 in 1999 to 78,893 during the July-December2000 period. (1/22/01)
- Gale InfoTrac stats for December 2000 have been added. VIVA membersviewed 1,768,651 articles during July - December 2000, a 15.6% increase over the same six-month period of the previousyear. (1/19/01)

There were a total of 38,221searches conducted during thecalendar year 2000 by all VIVA members, including both the public and private colleges and universities and theLibrary of Virginia. This was the first year we've had statistics for these two databases. (1/17/01)
- GaleNet stats (by database) for the July-December 2000 period have beenadded. Since the items counted changed in October 1998, comparisons to earlier years are fairly meaningless. Incomparing just the year 2000 to the previous year, however, we do see significantly increased use. (1/11/2001)

- GaleNet stats by database have been corrected from October 1998 andare current through February 2000. Please note that beginning in October 1998, we are using an estimate for theuse of Contemporary Authors. This is necessary because statistics for Contemporary Authors are included in severaldifferent packages at our member institutions. The Gale Group has provided us with a formula to determine an estimateof our use. The formula takes all use for "Searches Submitted" from the (1) Contemporary Authors, (2)CA and Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, (3) CA, CLCS, and the Dictionary of Literary Biography, and (4)those items Not Elsewhere Classified and multiplies the total by 85% to get the figure estimated to be attributedto the use of Contemporary Authors. - ABC-CLIO stats in summary form are now available. (2/11/00)
- We have discovered a major problem with the GaleNet stats for ContemporaryAuthors, or rather, with what we are reporting for those stats. Since VIVA schools subscribe to Contemporary Authorsthrough several different packages, we need to add up all hits to these packages and take a percentage of the totalto estimate the number of hits against Contemporary Authors. More news later.(2/9/00)
- ABC-CLIOstats are available for the first time, beginning with January 2000. These stats are presented exactly as theycame from the vendor. We will summarize these in a VIVA table, month/month, as soon as possible, but decisionshave not yet been made as to how much of this information needs to be displayed on the VIVA web site. (2/9/00)

- IAC stats for November and December 1998 have been added. There arestill a few gaps and we are working to fill those in. A quick glance reveals that we are seeing continued increasein our use. When compared with the comparable six month period (July - December) of 1997, this July - December1998 six month period showed a 60% increase in the number of sessions. Truth be told, we saw an even larger increasethe previous year (67.8%), but this continuing growth of use is very dramatic. (1/26/99)

- a) VIVA monthly totals by database, as well as
- b) total monthly accesses by institution. (7/23/98)

Despite the factthat we see these stats as very rudimentary and statistics for a few of the independent schools are still missing(and we will add those as soon as they are received), the overall totals show a significant trend of increased use:
- During the first quarter of 1998, we can report total VIVA use of ProjectMuse more than doubled (2.75X) that of the same quarter of the earlier year (2,081 in Jan-Mar 1997 vs. 5,345in Jan-Mar 1998). (KP 5/12/98)
